THE PASSAGE THROUGH BATALHA
Visit of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, to the Mosteiro da Batalha (Monastery of Batalha). The passage through Batalha was marked by a tribute from the Queen, who laid a laurel wreath punctuated with poppies next to the tomb of the unknown soldier, while a fanfare of clarins resounded the March of Continence.

PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC RECEIVES QUEEN ELIZABETH ll
At 11:17 a.m. on February 18, 1957, Marshal Francisco Craveiro Lopes, at that time President of the Republic, received Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, marking the official beginning of Her Majesty’s visit to Portuguese lands. Elizabeth was 31 years old and had been crowned five years earlier. The Terreiro do Paço, where the Royal Barge carrying Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh , by the Rio Tejo (Tagus) docked, was filled with people celebrating. Added to this event was the newly created Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (Portuguese Radio and Television “RTP”), which was making its debut in the first Portuguese television marathon.

SECOND VISIT TO PORTUGAL, 1985
Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, during their second visit to Portugal, traveled along Avenida dos Aliados in a convertible car, and were warmly welcomed by the people of Oporto, who gathered in large numbers in the streets. On that day, Queen Elizabeth II also watched a parade of rabelo boats on the Porto riverside, had lunch at Casa do Infante and visited the exhibition “Os Ingleses e o Porto” (The English and Oporto), at Palácio da Bolsa (Stock Exchange Palace).
